The Masuk Girls Lacrosse team had their season openers on Saturday against Shelton High School. Following the 17-2 win of the varsity team, the Junior Varsity team did not fail to live up to the expectation, pulling out a 8-3 win over Shelton.
Masuk started off strong in the first half with sophomore Alyssa Singer being the first one to score as well as another sophomore, Sam Tristine following right behind her. Maddy Restieri in goal only allowed two goals for Shelton in the first half, leaving the score 2-2. Starting off the second half, Devon Kriener, a freshman, had multiple draw controls hyping up the crowd and her teammates on the field. In the second half, Singer scored on two eight-meter shots as well as two other goals in the half, making her the leading scorer of Saturday’s game. Kriener also was able to find the back of the net in the second half, scoring her first goal. To close out the successful day, freshman Sophie Gustinas shot and scored, leaving Masuk with eight total goals.
Sophomore Emma Kearny agrees that this team looked well put together for their first day on the field saying, “ I think we played well. I think the new girls really stepped up for it being their first game and we just took to Shelton, won out ground balls, and beat them.”
Much of this team, although maybe new to the sport, or new to Masuk lacrosse, played well and with confidence. With the way the JV girl’s lacrosse team played Saturday, their season is looking to be successful as there is still plenty of time to play even better than they did.
The JV team has their next game tomorrow at Masuk High School against Trumbull at 5:00 pm and varsity at 6:30. Pop out to see the teams play and dominate!
