Last night (November 5th), the Masuk Lady Panthers faced the Brookfield Bobcats in a battle for the SWC Girls Volleyball Championship. The Lady Panthers came ready to go out of the gate, sweeping the Bobcats three sets to none. This win gave Masuk its first SWC championship in girls volleyball. Senior Jacqui Silkman says, “It’s an honor to be a part of a team that’s done something that’s never been done before.” In addition to the win, Masuk’s setter Mia Tyler was named the SWC tournament MVP.
Yes, this is a big win for the girls; however, they have bigger things in mind, according to senior outside Addison Scott. Scott says, “The job’s not finished. We’re so glad to win SWCs, but we have one main goal, and that’s states.”
Lately, the girls have been on a roll, finishing the regular season with a record of 17-2 and coming in at the three seed for the state tournament. They earned a round-one bye, followed by the winner of WCA vs. Brookfield next week in round two. Stay tuned as the girls do their best to take home the hardware.
