Eleanor Alvord, Dylan Loppe and Thomas Falcone are just three of the freshmen that have joined Masuk Robotics this year. The three are currently working on their robot for the competition on Saturday the 17th, and while there is a lot of work to do, they remain calm.

“I have some pretty high hopes, we have people that fit all of the roles we need.” said Falcone. Of course, there are also hopes for the competition.

“I hope that we can at least be in the top 30 of teams.” said Alvord. “It’s our first year of highschool, I’m hoping [over time] we’ll get better.” She agrees that going into the first competition with an ambitious goal is a good mindset to have.

The team doesn’t only have the competition in their minds, though. The three freshmen all consider their possible careers in robotics. “I want to be some sort of engineer, but I don’t know specifically yet. Doing robotics can help me figure out what type of engineer I want to be, because I know I’m going to be one.” said Loppe.

The beginning of their journey in robotics were all different, too! “I’ve always be interested in building things, especially with Legos.” said Falcone.

Similarly, Alvord said, “I’ve always liked computers and coding and I figured that this would be a good way to practice that.”

Finally, Loppe shared his initial motive to join. “My mom forced me. As I got to be in the activities more, I realized I could get a bunch of careers out of it.”

Regardless of how theses new freshmen roboticists came to join Masuk Robotics, they all are hard-working students who strive for success. The Masuk Free Press wishes them the best of luck at their competition on Saturday!
