It’s a good time of year for football fans. The NFL, NCAA, and most importantly, your Masuk Panthers are back on the gridiron ready for a year that is set to bring loads of success. On 9.3, the Panthers participated in a scrimmage against Waterbury Career Academy, and it’s safe to say that the Panthers were already on the prowl. The score margin was so wide, the scoreboard stopped counting. The last recorded score was 42-0 in Masuk’s favor, with a couple more touchdowns to tack on as well that weren’t counted. With their home opener in less than a week against Stratford, Masuk has been prepping all summer long.
Between the Red & White Intrasquad scrimmage on 8.22 (which you can read more about by clicking here) and their 9.3 scrimmage, Masuk is looking to carry their offseason momentum into the approaching season.
“This momentum is gonna carry into the next game, and after that,” said senior captain quarterback Aaron Champagne, “It’s gonna help us a lot.”
Throughout the scrimmage, Champagne was able to connect with senior captain wide receiver Tanner Walker for two passing touchdowns, one off a screen pass on the first offensive drive, and the other coming from Walker finding space in the middle of the endzone, making the mid-air catch. Senior running back Nico Convertito was able to run for a touchdown as well, breaking free from WCA’s front seven up the sideline. The Panthers also had two pick-sixes, one from junior Nate O’Hara, and the other from sophomore Austin Patti. Fellow offensive line captains Daniel Balestriere, and Alex Tiago were extremely helpful in keeping the pocket clear all afternoon, and paving running lanes for their teammates. Defensive captain Luke Costantini, joined by Balestriere clogged running lanes and generated constant pressure on the opposing offense.
“It’s definitely a good feeling,” said Champagne, “We’ve been eager to get out in the field and play.”
The entirety of Masuk’s squad showed up against WCA, and as they prepare for Stratford, the Red Army will be in full force, showcasing the notoriety of the Panthers.
