Masuk celebrated the second to last day of spirit week with the beloved “Theme Day.” Theme day provides the classes another opportunity to represent their grade well and dress to the nines. The freshmen were Western, the sophomores were Greek life, the juniors were superheroes, and the seniors were dressed in camo.

The participating freshmen showed up and showed out in flannels and denim. Cowboy hats and bandanas were common accessories, and one freshman even went as far as to walk the halls wearing a horse’s head. Respect!

The sophomores were assigned Greek life and were supposed to dress as fraternity and sorority members. Upon reflection, I do not remember seeing a singular sorority girl, and it seemed that every sophomore collectively took the frat boy route. This is understandable, considering they could just don a polo shirt and cargo shorts and call it a day, but most of our sophomores took it a step further. Sideways hats, fake beards and red solo cups were integral parts of the sophomore look today.

The unsung heroes of the school, the Juniors swooped in this morning ready to save Masuk from peril. The objectively most fun theme, many juniors were spotted in full superhero costumes, representing their class anonymously as Spiderman and Batman. The juniors had an impressive participation rate today, with most wearing at least a t-shirt or cape. Some fan favorites from the day include the Hulk and the Green Lantern, although I’m saddened to report the lack of Clark Kents roaming the halls.

Sticking to tradition, Masuk’s seniors were nowhere to be found. Or at least they were wearing camo. The graduating class represented themselves well with different stylings of the boxy Senior Camo Tee, while some took this day as an opportunity to wear military gear to school. Senior camo is a well-instated tradition, and while we may not know why, Masuk seniors make it look good.

The second to last day of Masuk’s spirit week was a success, and tomorrow’s theme is school spirit. Masuk will operate with shortened periods tomorrow leading up to the pep rally in the gymnasium and is then set to face off against Bethel on the football field.
