Fortnite Battle Royale is a multiplayer third-person shooter game, in which one hundred players drop onto an island with the main objective to eliminate all other players while being forced into smaller areas by a deadly storm. The last remaining player achieves a “Victory Royale”. The game is known for its vibrant graphics and the ability for players to uniquely express themselves via emotes, skins and novel building techniques.

The OG season began on Nov. 3 and is set to end on Dec. 2. It promises a trip down memory lane for players who played during seasons five through ten, which occurred between 2018 and 2019, attracting players who needed a throwback.

“Out of nostalgia, I really do like the first ever seasons,” said senior Jackson Planker. “They would still kind of have that simplistic fun in it.”

While some returning players have compliments, some older players have their criticisms about the state of Fortnite today.

“The bots are extremely annoying. It’s so annoying because I think it’s somebody, but it’s not, so you’re just wasting your ammo,” said senior Jordan Kumar.

Bots in Fortnite were introduced in Chapter 2, Season 1. Epic Games, the developer and publisher of Fortnite, has advertised them as a way for players to work on their skills in a way that is not overwhelming. However, players are beginning to criticize Fortnite regarding the number of bots, and their inability to provide players with any real challenge.

Senior Jayden Maragh said,“When it says that there are six hundred thousand players online, I’m like, why do you have to fill the lobbies up with bots?”

On the other hand, bots are not viewed as all bad.

“I think that those can be beneficial, but it also depends on your skill level. Cause’ if you have a higher skill level then they don’t necessarily have any benefit to you because they are kind of easier… because they are not actual players,” said senior Sienna Ferguson.

The consensus seems to be that bots are useful for beginner players who are still figuring out the game and its different combat mechanics, but are relatively useless for more experienced players because their skill is exclusively tailored to beginners.

On the other hand, returning players have had beaming reviews about creative mode and custom maps made by players, for players.

Creative mode is a function added in season seven of Fortnite where players can create custom maps and minigames. Players have created entirely new experiences that are varying levels of different from the base game.

“Bedwars was a game mode that I primarily saw from Minecraft … I feel like it was kind of perfect for Fortnite. And then also the developers adding Unreal Engine in creative [mode] is a really good idea,” said Maragh.

As the OG season begins to wrap up, players are weighing whether or not they will consistently play into the future.

“I don’t know. Cause I don’t know what the next season is going to bring. It could be something really good, It could be a mosh of the two, I hope it is, or maybe even, they go back to Season 7 and they have the winter part. I would really love to see that for December, that would be cool,” stated Planker.

Overall, players are mixed on whether or not they will continue to play Fortnite. On Dec. 2, Fortnite will run “The Big Bang”, an event to mark the end of the OG season and the beginning of Chapter 5, Season 1.

  6. The article was very well written and explained how big of an event it was for people to reminisce about their childhood. Everyone seems to like the OG map the best because it’s what they grew up with. Overall, this season was a great idea because so many people loved the OG season when it first came out.

  7. The article was very detailed and represented both sides (people who like it and people who didn’t). People seemed happy that it came back and I personally enjoyed it as well.

  8. I loved the flashback, but others say it’s not the same since you’re not with the same people your with or the same graphics.

Fornites OG season was an amazing parting gift from Donald Mustard former CEO. It really brought back the memories of childhood. It also really got everyone talking about fortnite and was a good thing since they used this to introduce new things and get it relevant. Like the big bang which you mentioned and would transition into chapter 5.
