The Masuk dance team performed in the hip hop and jazz divisions of their Southwest Conference (SWC) on Feb. 7 at New Milford High School. Masuk went head to head with teams from New Milford, Brookfield, Newtown, Stratford and Bunnell high schools.
The Panthers started off the competition with their hip hop number.
“The hip hop routine was amazing!” said the coach, Lisa Pantaleo. “It was a high energy performance and they crushed it. The girls worked so hard and it was a well deserved win. I am so proud of everything they have accomplished this season and can’t wait to see how we do at States.”
Following intermission, the girls performed their jazz dance to the song “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac.
“This year’s jazz dance has a much different feel than last years. Going into this competition I think we had a lot of confidence with jazz,” said captain Ava Tornay. “The team had worked so hard on this dance and really put a lot into it. I’m so proud of everyone.”

The competition ended with the Panthers taking second place in the hip hop division, runner up to Newtown High School, as well as fourth place in the jazz division.
“Overall, Masuk gave it our all and we did our best,” said senior Sam Cornut. “All 17 of us girls stood up and cheered loud and proud with Panther pride. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings us!”
