On Monday, the Masuk girl’s varsity field hockey team defeated the Saint Joseph Hogs on Benedict Field in a 5-0 senior night victory.

Led by captains Amelia Logan, Molly Halliday, Ella Bunovky, and Isabel Viglione, the team kept the ball on offense for the majority of the game. Logan scored the first goal six minutes into the first quarter. With eight minutes left in the third quarter, Halliday scored the third goal. Viglione scored the fourth goal and Logan scored the fifth goal for the team in the third quarter.
The successful game added to the positive attitude of Senior night. Seniors Elizabeth McHugh, Talia Barnhart, Rachel Reinoso, Mia Alderman, Bunovsky, Logan, Halliday and Viglione were celebrated by the entire team. Underclassmen chalked the driveway leading down to Benedict field, created posters, decorated the stands, and made baskets with snacks and personalized gifts for all the senior players.

The girls made sure to have team bonding leading up to the game. As shared on their Instagram @masufieldhockey the girl’s played dodgeball to prepare to beat the Hogs.
Overall the game was an expected win as Saint Joseph holds an overall record of 0-9-2. Still, Masuk displayed power and teamwork,
“The ball was definitely on St. Joe’s half of the field for the majority of the game which was awesome. It felt amazing to have all eight seniors on the field together, and the energy was electric,” stated McHugh.
Overall Masuk is 10-2, and first in the Southwest conference, followed by Pomperaug, New Milford, and Newtown. In their upcoming game, Masuk is playing Bethel High School, a team they previously played in September where Masuk won 9-1.
Make sure to support the girl’s next game on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 4:00 p.m. against Bethel High School!
