Freshman boy’s basketball does not disappoint. Monday evening they earned Masuk yet another win against New Milford with a score of 52-31.
The Panthers dominated the first quarter with a 12-4 lead thanks to baskets by Oliver Irving, Stephen Sentementes, and Christopher Welch. Masuk continued to dominate the second quarter, barely allowing New Milford to score. By the end of quarter two, New Milford had only put up two more baskets, whereas the impressive shooting by Stephen Sentementes, Alexandros Simoulidis, Tariq Al-Hameedi, and Shane Walker brought Masuk to a 21 point lead.
During the third quarter, New Milford attempted to fight back, posting 13 points for the quarter. Try as they might, it wasn’t enough against the overall strength and skill displayed by our Freshman Boys, who opened the lead to 25.
The fourth quarter was more of the same, with Masuk closing out the Green Wave by a score of 52-31.
The highest scorers of the game were Stephen Sentementes and Oliver Irving both with 14 points. Christopher Welch added 9 points, and Shane Walker contributed 6.
High scorer Oliver Irving said, “The game was great, everyone played well. Alex was hitting shots, Stephen was finishing well at the rim, Shane played with great effort on the defensive side of the ball, and Chris was rebounding like a horse. The game got off to a slow start but when I made a layup and Chris made one too it picked up. The game was really won midway through the third quarter when we hit a mid range pull up and Stephen got a layup and Alex hit a big three to finish them.”
The boys are now 8-1 on the season, with a game coming up on Thursday against Bunnell at 3:45. Make sure to pop out for the freshmen along with the Varsity and JV games.
