Euros 2021 Preview

Due to the cancelation of the 2020 European Football Tournament, more well known as the Euros, the tournament is set to kick off a year late, on June 11th 2021. The tournament is set for one month of play time and all 24 teams are set to take each other on in the 12 venues spread across the continent. Countries such as Germany, France and Russia are eager to host more games than originally scheduled due to other countries being hesitant to host such a big event with COVID-19 still threatening citizens.

With the Euros so quickly approaching, analysis across the football world have all been asking the same question, who will be lifting that beautiful trophy come July 11th. To say the least there has been a difference in opinions due to european success recently in all competitions. Amongst the community, currently France, the defending World Cup Champions are favorite to win the whole thing. Well, the Francs certainly have the talent to do so, with striker Kylian Mbapee and his blistering pace and finishing ability. Their midfield is world class with the likes of N’golo Kante and Paul Pogba bossing the middle of the pitch. One tough decision French manager, Didier Dechamps, will be who to play at centre back, the french have an embarrassment of riches of young talented players at the position such as Rafael Varane, Presnel Kimpembe, Dayot Upamecano as well as Ibrahima Konate. The Netherlands are another frontrunner to win the tournament due to their incredible young core. Their leadership comes from two young players by the names of Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie De Jong, who both made waves after tearing it up in the Dutch league, earning a big move to Juventus and Barcelona respectively. They also have some incredible skillful players up top with the likes of Quincy Promes and Memphis Depay. The dutch side is also captained by arguably the best centre back in world football, Virgil Van Dijk, him and de Ligt at the back will be a force to be reckoned with.

Two other counties that will be motivated to win this cup because of their pure talent will be the Germans and the English. The Germans will be returning some world class veterans of the game such as captain Manuel Neuer and Toni Kross, however just about the rest of the team sheet will be filled with young talent. The midfield two of Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich have shown incredible chemistry and their club team, Bayern München. Germany also finally have two strikers with blistering pace, however, the question remains can manager, Joaquin Lowe, fit their counterattacking play into his infamous tiki-taka style of play. When asked about the tournament as a whole, Senior Jason Vasalakis has this to say, “Although my Greeks didn’t qualify for the tournament this year, I would really like to see the Germans return to the top and win the Euros.” The last core team who has been predicted to lift the trophy would be England. They are led up top by current Premier League goal leader, Harry Kane and his exciting partner in crime, Marcus Rashford. Those two are backed backed by proven midfield talent with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Jadon Sancho as well as the young lad, Phil Foden. Senior Brendan Dauk had this to say about the 2020 Euros, “I cannot wait to watch one of the most competitive soccer tournaments with my buddies before we go off to school. I back big boy Harry Kane and England to bring it home this year since my Irish have been left out” The Masuk community as well as the football world is stoked for the Euros and June 11th cannot come soon enough. Personally I believe that Germany is going to win this thing, however, seeing as though Germany is my birth place and favorite team, there may be some bias there.
