Bieber is Back

After a year’s time, Justin Bieber came out with a new album on Friday March 19 entitled “Justice.”  His album, with snippets of Martin Luther King Jr.’s speeches, focuses on social liberty and also his new and improved lifestyle. Bieber had previously struggled with drug abuse as well as battling with mental issues. He took time off of his Purpose Tour about four years ago to work on himself and his well being. After getting married to Hailey Bieber, and taking the time he needed, Bieber rediscovered his faith, focused on love, and came back better than ever.

Bieber’s album greatly reflects his transformation and also incorporates awareness for all social rights. It starts out with the song “2 Much,” with Martin Luther King Jr.’s voice speaking, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” In this song, Bieber expresses his love for someone, most likely being his wife Hailey, and conveys that he does not want to miss out on any time with her or in life. In his second track, “Deserve You,” Bieber expresses his love for Hailey and illustrates that he is lucky to have her. He also addresses how he has improved from his past when he sings the words “I’m on my ten thousandth life nine thousand nine hundred nine and it slipped my hands,” and “I’m praying that I don’t go back to who I was.”

Bieber’s album also contains many collaborations with other artists. The third track “As I Am” features Khalid. Bieber and Khalid convey the message of acceptance in the song. The chorus, “Take me as I am, swear I’ll do the best I can say I’m not going anywhere,” suggests the message of acceptance and love as he is promising he will be committed in his relationships as the person he is. Bieber’s similar song “Anyone” indicates that Beiber is in love with Hailey and that he will only ever be in love with her. He expresses that she “is the only girl he’ll ever love,” and “the only good he’s ever done,” despite previous relationship with singer Selena Gomez.

Some speculate that Biber’s song “Ghost” may be about Gomez. Beiber’s song reads, “And if I can’t be close to you, I’ll settle for the ghost of you. I miss you more than life.” Since Gomez already has a song entitled “Ghost of You,” with lyrics “I don’t think I’ll ever break through the ghost of you,” many are digging into Bieber and Gomez’s relationship to find the drama.

And lastly, Bieber’s biggest hit on the “Justice” album, “Peaches,” was ranked number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 and because of this song, he was the first male solo artist to achieve this high rank on both Billboard’s Top 200 Albums and Hot 100 in one week. This song is also about his love for Hailey Bieber and compares it to the qualities of a peach. He relates his beginning of career to getting peaches in Georgia, as that is where it kicked off for him, and addresses how he’s changed and been lucky enough to have Hailey by his side. “Peaches” is a favorite song on the album to many.

“I can listen to it over and over and I also love Daniel Caesar,” said senior Olivia Callanan.

Overall Bieber’s album “Justice” was a very uplifting and great album to listen to. I would completely recommend it to anyone for a mood booster!
