(Careful, Spoilers!!)
The longest running medical hit drama, Grey’s Anatomy, has reached its final 17th season, starting the end with Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) life in a non-stop nostalgic balancing act. Everyone awaits to see how the show will roll out and whether or not Meredith will survive COVID-19.
While the show had other plans for its presumed last season, producers knew they had to showcase the toll the COVID-19 pandemic has had on healthcare workers and first responders. They have taken their fans through a rollercoaster of emotions so far this season. Not only have producers brought COVID-19 into this year’s storyline, they have taken advantage of the opportunity to bring back beloved characters, creating an emotional final goodbye.
Grey’s Anatomy is one of the most popular TV dramas in the world, particularly among Masuk students and even faculty. It is not uncommon to hear students talking about the events of the show on Friday mornings, following the airing of a new episode on a Thursday night.
“I just can’t believe that Meredith caught COVID and has spent the whole final season in a hospital bed,” said senior Olivia Tohill, “At this point in the season, I really have no idea as to how it will end. Grey’s Anatomy has been my favorite show for years. I’m dreading the last episode.”
The show has brought back some of Masuk High School’s favorite characters such as George O’Malley played by T. R. Knight, and Derek Shepherd played by Patrick Dempsey.
“When George first appeared on the screen, I immediately started balling. Ever since the beginning of the show George has always been one of my favorite characters,” said senior Casey Halliday.
Both George and Derek came back onto the show to visit Meredith during her hallucinations while suffering from COVID.
“Derek used to be the only reason I watched this show. He is the love of Meredith’s life and when he died a few seasons back, I didn’t even want to continue watching. It was amazing to get to see them together again,” added Halliday.
Grey’s Anatomy fans have developed emotional attachments to many of the characters who have been on the show for so many years. It first aired when the current senior class was two years old. Therefore they grew up watching the show. Everyone is beyond excited to see their favorite characters back on the scene.
While it is predicted this will be the final season, there are plenty of rumors flying around social media that this might not be the end for the show. Fingers crossed!
