The spotlight never truly fades, and it seems that comeback season has begun. Stars from popular teen TV shows have recently tested this theory: Hilary Duff, Leon Thomas and Demi Lovato, all with new milestones in their music careers. With a step back into the spotlight, these celebs are proving that it is never too late to reinvent yourself, stepping out of your comfort zone and starting something new.
“It’s very interesting to see them branch out and truly make a comeback as themselves and not just as their characters,” said freshman Christina McKellick.
For instance, Hilary Duff won over the hearts of audiences as the Disney Channel star of the Lizzie McGuire franchise. From movies to TV series, Duff’s commitment to various Disney projects made her a household name.

“I used to watch Lizzie McGuire all the time,” said senior Karolina Jaworska. “I watched the movie and TV show a lot growing up. I didn’t know she made music, though.”
Duff struggled finding her identity after forming such a strong persona on television, requiring a quick break from acting. However, she has recently stepped back into the spotlight. Her newest single, “Mature”, dropped on Nov. 6, 2025, taking fans by surprise. Duff’s last album, Breath In. Breath Out. was released in 2015, making “Mature” her long-awaited return to the music industry and pop culture talk itself.
“It was mediocre. It has a good melody and rhythm, and she has a really strong voice,” said senior Evan Barnett. “She sounds very mature, but I wouldn’t listen to it again”.
Duff’s solo career has slowly moved forward, leaving room for improvement in the upcoming years. Her unexpected return to music has reminded fans of her lasting impact on the film industry, her iconic talent, and her relevance in pop culture remains even after her Disney days.
Following the wave of former teen stars returning to music, Leon Thomas stepped back into the spotlight after the famous Victorious show aired on Nickelodeon. After the show finished airing in 2013, Thomas stepped away from the public eye for a few years, dropping the hit song MUTT in 2024. The song reached the top of several R&B charts, especially after going viral on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

“I used to watch Victorious a lot when I was younger; it was one of my favorite shows. I didn’t know that Andre sang the song until he showed up on my TikTok,” said senior Adriana Sforza. “He definitely deserves all that he is achieving”.
Not only was MUTT a hit, but Leon’s whole solo career has hit a new high after these past few weeks. With the official release of Grammy nominees, he has been nominated for a total of five categories: Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Best R&B Performance, Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best R&B Album.
“It’s a good song. I heard it on TikTok and listen to it sometimes,” said Jaworska. “It definitely deserves a Grammy nomination.”
Similar to Leon Thomas creating this new image for himself aside from his television role, Demi Lovato has done the same thing over the years; she has taken the world by surprise with her recent comeback to pop culture. Lovato’s breakthrough occurred on the famous Disney series Camp Rock, which aired in 2008, followed by a sequel in 2010. Since those early years, Lovato has evolved from a teen star to a powerful singer and performer, releasing multiple albums and tours throughout the following years.
“I was so excited when they announced Camp Rock 3,” said senior Peyton Santos. “I used to watch the movies all the time, but I’m pretty upset that Demi Lovato’s not going to be in it; It won’t be the same without her.”

Though Lovato’s presence will not be felt on screen, it will be behind the scenes. She has taken on the role of executive producer alongside the Jonas Brothers, involving herself with her much loved franchise. Filming for the movie has just ended, giving Demi the time to work on her solo music career.
“I’ve been seeing her on TikTok a lot,” said Santos. “Her voice has developed really nicely. I’ve seen a lot of fans complimenting her voice and new advances in her solo career. You can tell she’s been focusing more on her singing than acting – the progress really shows.”
This recent wave of comebacks displays that stepping away from the spotlight does not mean fading. Artists like Hilary Duff, Leon Thomas and Demi Lovato have proven that reinventing and developing as artists is crucial to the success of their careers, as they step out of their Disney and Nickelodeon shells and into the music industry. These comebacks remind audiences – especially seniors – that the stars they watched growing up are still growing with them, throwing a wave of nostalgia and a bittersweet feeling as they near the end of their childhood. Just as the stars are discovering new beginnings, so are the fans who grew up with them.
