Sheppard.Leading the Way Karolina Jaworska’s Role as College Board Ambassador
Many students in Masuk High School are excelling on the national level. Whether it be academically, athletically, or musically. One of these students is Karolina Jaworska, a senior who is now named a College Board Ambassador. This is an esteemed position in our nation that gives students the opportunity to lead throughout their school and encourages students to utilize College Board Big Future Resources.
A College Board Ambassador calls for many leadership qualities that Jaworska has. This role requires motivating classmates, providing feedback to the College board, building a community to connect with other ambassadors, and leading by example. This is a very crucial role because the College Board relates to the SAT and College resources as a whole. Jaworska originally claimed she wasn’t sure if she wanted to fill out the application.
“ But then I realized this is a good opportunity. So I just decided, hey, I could just try to do it, and if I get in, then I’ll just do my best. And I got in, so right now, I’ll just do my job as I’m supposed to,” said Jaworska
This program is very beneficial to the ambassadors as well. There are many perks that come with this position. One being: it is highly esteemed across colleges and is a credible resource to put on college applications.
This program is also known for building leadership skills that can be especially beneficial for certain career choices, such as business or communications. Jaworska is planning on going into accounting,
“This gives you a great opportunity for my intended major, like more connections, because you connect people all over the country… I already met some people from Alabama, Florida, and Philadelphia. It’s pretty cool,” said Jaworska.
Another good skill for this program is networking. Ambassadors can connect with other students and make meaningful connections. This experience is an overall positive opportunity for students who should follow the example of Jaworska.
Although these ambassadors are not paid, this is a prestigious position to lead the school and future generations of high school students. The idea of becoming a college board ambassador may seem competitive. Tens of thousand of students apply yearly, but this year only 9000 were accepted. Jaworska was one of those few who were accepted. With this, there are many expectations she must withhold. For one, she is expected to share personalized links relating to Big Future. Also, she must provide feedback on all the tools included in Big Future.
“Every week, they give us this kind of tool kit that we have to share, either on Instagram or like some kind of social media or in person… We have to spread the word about certain college things to help people have more help when applying to college,” said Jaworska. Furthermore, she must participate in community events.
Jaworska has already begun fitting into her ambassador role nicely. Few students understand Big Future resources, and she can aid in that. There are many tools which is essential for the college planning process. Her appointment as ambassador came at a crucial time due to the fact that the college process is in peak time right now, and many might need help. For example, having someone to give resources and reassurance. It is great to have a student representative who can help so that all students can reach their goals, regardless of whether guidance is already busy. In this program, the ambassadors are rewarded for their work in shares.
“They kind of give us awards. Like every two weeks, we get a squad award… then the 2 highest shares get an ambassador of the month award,” said Jaworska. She is already leaving behind an influential mark on the school.
When filling out the ambassador application, there were many questions relating to social media, talking to multiple people, and Zoom meetings.
Jaworska said, “The questions were, how would you help if you’re an ambassador? How would you help share? It’s around 500 words each.”
The application can be difficult to fill out.
“I would say it was difficult to fill out the application because first, you had to kind of have a prerequisite because I already got an award from Big Future before…if you were somehow connected with Big Future, that would greatly help your chances,” said Jaworska
As the college admission season becomes more stressful, this college board ambassador program serves as a bridge between students and the crucial resources needed for this process.
“ I would 100% encourage others to apply. It’d be a great way to get yourself out there. You can host a lot of things in your school, get connected with other people, and it’s just a great opportunity,” said Jaworska.
Thanks to leaders such as Karolina Jaworska, Masuk is not just preparing students for college but helping them excel in these areas of education.
