As students walked through the door with their stuffed animals this morning, Masuk’s 2025 Spirit Week officially commenced.
Monday’s theme was a schoolwide pajama day, complete with blankets and stuffed animals. Students did not let the unseasonably warm weather stop them from pulling up in flannel sets and insulated comfies. Masuk’s pajama choices were varied, and as you walked through the halls today you’d see anything from a chic silk pajama set to a fuzzy onesie, often complete with tails and hoods. Some hot hallway couture today included nightgowns, caps, and candles as a stylish homage to Ebenezer Scrooge and an oversized tortilla blanket as a cape.

Even the teachers got in the spirit, sporting bathrobes and plaid pajama pants. Unfortunately, some were unwilling to join the fun (Mr. Horvath) and did not use this day as an opportunity for comfort.
Although the merit of this theme is its accessibility to all students, I know I am not the only one who felt as though it was mildly underwhelming. After all, isn’t this just how Masuk students dress anyway? Onesies aside, one could walk through the halls and hardly notice an irregularity in teen fashion, as not everybody felt like lugging around a blanket or a stuffed animal to make their look distinguishable. Maybe a clever addition like “anything but a backpack” would have made this day more entertaining and less lackluster.
Overall, this kickoff to spirit week was a little bit less hype than students had hoped. Students are to dress “Through The Years” tomorrow, with seniors as senior citizens, juniors as adults, sophomores as toddlers, and freshmen as babies. We shall see how far out Masuk students are willing to go tomorrow, and judge which class best represented their group.
