Tuesday, April 4, the Masuk girl’s lacrosse team beat the Joel Barlow Falcons 14 – 6.
The first quarter started off with an aggressive offense from the Panthers, with notable contributions from senior captain Sam Henry and senior Sammy Sullivan. Four minutes in, senior captain and goalie Sophie Clark made a save, which was cleared out by sophomore Grace Kearney.
Soon after, senior captain Lilly Cameron scored, putting Masuk on the board first. Just thirty seconds later sophomore Charlotte Pinto scored, followed up with another one from Cameron, bringing Masuk up 3 – 0.
Masuk play was dynamic and with 5:24 left in the quarter the Panthers scored again. Less than a minute later, Joel Barlow retaliated, putting the score at 4 – 1.
In turn, Pinto scored again bringing Masuk up 5 – 1. The Panthers’ strong defensive efforts from Kearney and sophomore Bailey Bajda held off the Falcons. With just a minute left in the quarter, Bajda scored, ending the first quarter 6 – 1.
“Barlow has always been a very competitive game for us, especially coming off last year only beating them by one,” said Clark. “Today the whole team just came out aggressive, stuck to the game plan, and wanted it more.”

The second quarter started on the defense for the Panthers with a save from Clark. Masuk scored at 9:25, followed by goals from Bajda and Sullivan, the score now 9 – 1. With six minutes left Masuk brought the score up to 10 – 1, and a minute later Cameron scored again.
The Panthers brought the score up to 12 – 1 and as the quarter came to a close Cameron found the back of the net, ending the first half 13 – 1.
The third period started with a save for Clark. Masuk went on the offense but could not find the back of the net. Just over halfway through the quarter Joel Barlow scored twice, bringing them up to 13 – 3. In the last thirty seconds, Masuk took control of the ball and scored, the score now 14 – 3.
The last quarter started the same as the previous two, with saves from Clark. On the defense of a Barlow eight meter, Clark made another save. Masuk went on the offense but with just under six minutes left, Joel Barlow scored. As the game came to a close Joel Barlow scored twice more. The final score was 14 – 6.
