With the end of Unified Sports’s competitive leg of the year, two members of Unified Sports are set to receive recognition during the Unified Sports Award Dinner on April 29th. Eric Unger and Emme Broderick are set to receive the One Partner One Athlete Award. This award is given to a Partner-Athlete duo from select schools that represent the core values of Unified Sports.

“We get to go to a banquet with similarly motivated people from across the state and celebrate our commitment to unified sports over four years,” said Eric Unger, Captain and Recipient of the award.

Unified Sports is led by Donald Casey, who has been Coaching Masuk’s Unified Sports team for the last two years.

“They’re all very important to us, and they’ve really made this season very special working as a team.” Said head coach Donald Casey.

“What unified sports does (is) allows everybody, despite what their ability levels, to just shine and be themselves and be part of a team.”  He added

What is magical about Unified Sports at Masuk is the fact that it is truly a balanced atmosphere, where athletes are in a collaborative environment that allows them to thrive to the best of their abilities, even if they are wide ranging.

Emme Broderick, Captain and Recipient, described her role within the team with Eric.

“We have helped others,” She said.

The SWC Sports Center describes the Unified Sport program as a forum for positive social interaction between intellectually disabled and non-disabled students on and off the field, and Eric and Emme are great representatives of both Unified Sports and Masuk as a whole.
